This is the Fraser Institute’s sixth report on economic freedom in the Arab world. Bahrain holds the top spot this year. Kuwait and Lebanon are tied for second. The findings are important given that economic freedom has been shown to promote prosperity, economic growth, and other positive outcomes. It is also highly consistent with Arab and Muslim culture and tradition. Indeed, for much of the past millennium, it is likely that the Muslim world enjoyed the greatest level of economic freedom, in general, and trade openness, in particular, in the world. It is only over the past few centuries that this lead has slipped away. | |
